EVM Equivalence
The Santiment Chain is built on the OP Stack and is designed to be EVM Equivalent, meaning it behaves exactly like Ethereum at the smart contract execution level. This is not just about supporting Solidity or MetaMask — it's about replicating Ethereum’s execution logic down to the finest detail.
EVM equivalence ensures that any smart contract written for Ethereum can be deployed on Santiment Chain without any modifications. Developers don’t need to learn new languages, change gas usage patterns, or rewrite code for compatibility. This creates a seamless experience between Ethereum and Santiment Chain — the same tools, the same contracts, and the same behavior.
The Santiment Chain as an OP Stack chain uses op-geth, a fork of Ethereum’s official Geth client, for executing transactions. Unlike other L2s that only emulate the EVM, op-geth is a full EVM implementation, preserving all opcodes, gas semantics, and edge-case behaviors. Combined with the rollup infrastructure (op-node), the Santiment Chain integrates directly with Ethereum while maintaining full EVM compliance.
Thanks to this architecture, the Santiment Chain:
- Executes smart contracts identically to Ethereum L1,
- Works out-of-the-box with tools like Hardhat, Foundry, and Remix,
- Requires no special wrappers or code changes,
- Preserves security assumptions and testing results from L1 deployments.
